Bawku: Security Officers brawl, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih intervenes

The Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has called for peace and collaboration among security personnel in the Upper East Region after a clash between the Military and officers of the Ghana Prisons Service in Bawku in the Upper East Region on April 24, 2024.

A statement shared by Mohammed Bipuah, one of the closest Aids and spokespersons of the Former Upper West Regional Minister noted that, the Upper East Regional Security Council led by Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih visited Bawku and met with both the military and the prison officers to get their side of the story.

The statement further noted that, the visit will help de-escalate  tension and foster dialogue among the various security agencies in Bawku and the Upper East Region in order to help accomplish the big agenda of bringing back peaceful co-existence  among the people of Bawku and the Upper East Region.

On the 24th of April, 2024,the Regional Security Council led by Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper East Regional Minister intervened in a delicate situation between the Ghana Armed Forces and the Prisons Service in Bawku. The conflict arose due to a misunderstanding, the specifics of which have not been disclosed.

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih’s visit aimed to de-escalate tensions and facilitate dialogue between the two institutions. He met with representatives from both sides to understand their grievances and foster reconciliation.Following productive discussions, agreements were reached, and both parties expressed their commitment to maintaining peace and cooperation in the Bawku municipality.

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih emphasized the importance of collaboration among security agencies for the well-being of the community.The Minister’s timely intervention underscores the significance of proactive conflict resolution and inter-agency cooperation in maintaining stability and security in the Upper East Region.

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih was appointed as the Upper West Regional Minister in August 2018 after the President reassigned Hon. Alhaj Suleman Alhassan the then Upper West Regional Minister and has served for about  6-years until recently that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a letter signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin transferred him to the Upper West Region and he took over from Hon. Stephen Yakubu who also succeeded Hon Hafiz Bin Salih as the Upper West Regional Minister.
