UWR; UNFPA engages youth groups on the implementation of the Peace Building Fund Project
The United Nations Fund for Population Activities, a non-governmental Organization in Ghana in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme Ghana (UNDP Ghana) under the UN Peace-Building Fund Project engaged youth groups, traditional leaders and other NGOs in a workshop in Wa, had discussions with the vision of preventing localized conflicts and vulnerability as well as enhancing peacebuilding in eight (8) targeted districts in Ghana.
Findings from the mapping and assessment of the types of vocational and entrepreneurial skills and green job opportunities of interest to the youth and women in the eight selected districts in Ghana were equally presented, discussed and validated by the stakeholders and the selected participants.
The participants that were selected from the North East, Upper East and Upper West regions of Ghana comprising government officials, traditional leaders, religious organizations, NGOs, youth and women groups, contributed to a unified vision for an inclusive and effective peacebuilding.
Mr. Peter Maala, Coordinating Director of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council expressed gratitude to the organizers and assured the development partners, the RCC’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the UN-Peace Building Fund project.
He underscored the significant contribution of women and youth groups in peace building while embracing initiatives that will see to the economic empowerment of women and youth groups.
“This initiative is more than just a project, it is a movement towards a more peaceful and inclusive future, we need to work together to empower women and youth, foster spaces for constructive dialogue, strengthen local governance and build resilient communities” Mr. Peter stated.
Meanwhile, Hudu Muah, Sissala West District Director of the National Youth Authority who doubles as the founder of K.H Muah Enterprise Advance Youth Entrepreneurial Center described the project as a brighter light in the offing adding that, the implementation if done efficiently would impact the lives of a lot of women and youth.
He adds that, initiatives that are geared towards youth entrepreneurship and women empowerment are some of the golden ways of developing society and such initiatives are worth going for.
“Today’s programme is actually appetite wetting and we hope the implementation is that fast. After been called to be part of those to validate the research findings and recommendations of the project, I saw a brighter light coming if the recommendations are effectively implemented”
“It is one of the golden ways to develop the society and anything that is youth development, women development it is worth going for” he stressed.
The Peace Building Fund project which has a life span of 24 months and currently in the last 12months focuses on preventing and addressing the root causes of localized and spill over conflicts as well as vulnerabilities to violent extremism in Sissala West, Wa West, Bongo, Bawku West and Garu. Other beneficiary districts include Bunkprugu, Nankpaduri, Yunyoo-Nasuan and Chereponi.
The project seeks to enhance social cohesion and social contract through the empowerment of women and youth in the three regions of the Northern part of Ghana.
