My gov’t will establish Mineral Development Bank-Bawumia
The Vice President H.E Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has indicated that his government if given the node as President of Ghana after the December 7 polls, will establish Mineral Development Bank to give financial support to small-scale miners.
He also indicated that, the next NPP led government under his watch will formalize the operations of small-scale mining (galamsey) and get them licensed to operate in the mining sector.
The Veep made the revelation while interacting with the people of Kejetia a mining community in Talensi in the Upper East Region on Friday during his tour to the Upper East Region.
On his Facebook page, the NPP 2024 Presidential candidate further noted that his government will not only formalize the operations of small-scale mining with issuance of licenses but will also support the sector with equipment to aid their operations.
Below is the statement of the Veep posted on his Facebook page:
“This afternoon, I was warmly received by the Chiefs and people of Kejetia, a mining community in Talensi, in the Upper East Region.
In our fruitful interaction, I shared with them my vision for Ghana, if elected president, by the grace of God. Among others, I outlined my vision to support small-scale miners by formalising the sector and granting small-scale miners licenses to operate while supporting them with equipment and other facilities. My government will also establish the Minerals Development Bank to support the mining industry, just as the Agric Development Bank does for the agriculture sector.
In Bolga, this evening. I had another engaging session with the youth, and their enthusiastic questions and contributions to my presentation were inspiring.
Thank you, Upper East Region. It is possible together!”.
