The Former President John Dramani  Mahama, has stated that the current NPP led administration has run down the economy of Ghana  into a ditch stressing that, the next government would have a very difficult economic situations.

“We are going to come and meet a very difficult  economic situation unfortunately, this adminitration has not managed our finances well, the normal excuse is to say that COVID-19 Ukraine war but we are not the only ones who were affected by COVID and Ukraine war. Indeed COVID is a bonanza because ¢25billion was injected into this economy during the COVID and the ¢25billion according to the Auditor General was just misused, mismanaged so it cannot have been COVID”.

He quezzed why the neigbouring countries are doing well with their economies after they were also hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic stressing that, Cotê d’Ivoire was also affected yet inflation in Cotê d’iboire is below 5% when Ghana’s inflation rate is 22%

“Even if it was COVID, we were not the only ones affected by COVID Code Voire was affected by COVID and yet inflation in Cotê d’ivoire is below 5%, why is it 22% here it means that there is something that we were not doing right” Mahama questioned.

H.E John Dramani Mahama added that, the country is over borrowing under the current leadership accentuating that, the country is borrowing more than it is producing referencing that the Nana Addo/Bawumia led NPP governement between 2018-2021 borrowed US$11.5billion tagging it as the highest rate of borrowing in the history of Ghana.

“We are over borrowing, we are borrowing more than we are producing becuase if between 2018 and 2021 you could borrow US$11.5billion the highest rate of borrowing in the history of Ghana and if you had put it in the road network, in the railways, the hospitals, the productive infrastructure we probably will not be in the situation we are and so we have a big mess in our hands, the next governemt is not gonna have it easy” John Mahama noted.

Meanwhile, the Former President  while speaking with Chiefs, Queenmothers and traditional leaders of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs on October 14, 2024 in Wa, furthered that, the next NDC government will see to the completion of the abondoned projects at the SDD-UBIDs
He adds that, plans are also in the pipe line to upgrade the Upper West Regional Hospital into a Teaching Hospital so that medical students of the SDD-UBIDS can undertake their clinicals and other medical experiments at the facility.

The NDC 2024 Flagbearer is currently embarking on a 3-day campaigh tour of the Upper West Region and is expected to visit all the 11 constituencies of the Upper West Region.

He has been calling on the people of the Upper West Region to vote the elephant party out and cede power to the NDC to come and reset the country as the umbrella family believes that Ghana has been turned towards the wrong direction.
