Prioritize the health needs of your wards – Bliss Eye Care Urges parents
The Manager of a leading private Eye Care Clinic in Wa in the Upper West Region, Dr. Zakarea Al-hassan Baluri has made a passionate call on parents in the Upper West Region to take the health needs of their children very serious especially the sights of their wards.
He noted that, most parents pay less attention to the sights of their wards leaving them to their fate of battling with several eyes related problems that weakens their sights and affect their normal way of life especially their academic performance.
Dr. Zakarea made the call at Hain, in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region during a free eyes screening exercise organised for school children under the Blissful Sight For Kids (BS4Ks) Project in partnership with Ghana Vision, a swiss-based charity organization.
The Bliss Sight for Kids Project team during the eyes screening exercise organised on September 28, 2024 spotted some school children suffering from severe eyes related diseases despite less attention paid to their conditions by their parents.
Aiden Breme, a briliant 11-year-old boy of the Chepuri Primary School was said to have been diagnosed of Cataract Nystagmus, a condition that causes instability of the eyeballs affects Aidens’ academic performance despite he defying all odds to top the about 45 pupils in his class.
According to Mr. Cassius Kaatoore, Headmaster of the Chepuri Primary who praised the academic prowess of little Aiden noted that “a seat has been given to him in front of the class, but when something is written on the board, sometimes he has to move closer to the board before he can read the writings on the board”.
Mr. Cassius Kaatoori attributes the improper care of Aidens’ condition by his parents despite being born with the conditiont to the parents financial weakness. Little or no attention has been paid to the condition that poses a threat to the potential bright future of the briliant lad.
Meanwhile, Dr. Zakarea Al-hassan Baluri, Medical Supretendent of the Bliss Eye Clinic bemoans the high rate of lack of parental care on the health needs of parents adding that, many children suffer from various eyes related conditions/ diseases in the region, however, little or nothing is been done to avert their predicaments.
He seized the opportunity and appealed to parents and gurdians of school children and the general community to pay so much attention to the health needs of their wards and stressed that, parents should send their children to the hospital for regular medical check up especially on their sights.
Dr. Zakarea also admonished the public against resorting to traditional methods of treating eye related diseases, urging the public to make the health facilities the first point of call should there be any suspicion about an eye related disease.
However, a total of 676 beneficiaries passed through the free eyes screening exercise and out of the number, 108 pupils were reported of having normal eyes, Pathological cases (having issues releated to medication) pegged at 530, whereas refractive errors (having issues relating to eyeglasses) stood at 15.
