WA WEST: GES DIRECTOR WORKS IN OPEN AIR DUE TO DEPLORABLE OFFICE CONDITION
The Wa West District Director of Educations has been left with no option than to work in the open due to the dilapidated nature of his office.
On Monday, 6th January, 2025 a thorough inspection conducted at the office of the District Director of Education for the Wa West District revealed significant damage to the offices’s ceiling system as a result of the use of inferior wood fastened unto the ceiling.
The collapsed ceiling of the Director’s office which is suspected to have occured around 5am on Monday ,was the last to be experienced out of five administrative rooms within the Directorate.
The damages realized during the inspection posed potential safety hazards and structural concerns.
Ultimately, the deplorable state of the office if not checked would expose officers vulnerability to weather-related issues, hence, the need for pre-emptive measures to be taken in order to reduce the impact of such disasters in the future while accentuating the need for infrastructural improvement of the Directorate to be looked at urgently.
The six units block office complex which was handed over to the directorate in 2015 appears to be aging by the passage of time resulting to some signs of cracks and delapidating condition.
The news team spotted some office staff and cleaners carrying out the debris and some essential documents that have been “mixed up”from the Director’s office after the collapsing of the office ceiling.
The hanged wood, heated zinc, and hanged cable installations compelled the Director of Education to administer the day’s business in an open air as all other rooms that would have hosted him had suffered same fate.
It is however unclear how long the venerable Director would work in such open air.
The Wa West District Education Directorate has been cribbled with inadequate office space for its increasing staff, lacks the needed furniture for staff and the absence of store room to house essential materials.
Describing the current state of the Directorate, the Member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu in a radio interview stated that “The District Director of Education for the Wa West District Education Directorate must be a magician to be working in such a deplorable office”
On his part, Former District Chief Executive for the Wa West District, Hon. Basiera Sankara in a radio interview equally shared his disappoinment at the immediate Former District Chief Executive, Hon. Vida Dioritey for making no effort to improve upon the sorry state of the Directorate for which she was a part of before her appointment.
He stated that “Her tenure as the first female DCE has been the most disappointing one in the history of the Wa West District”
Meanwhile, the Wa West Education Director, Mr. Amatus D. Tug-uu had made several calls for a befitting office space to be erected for the directorate as the old block was no longer fit for purpose but, his numerous calls fell on deef ears.
It will be recalled that, his Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo, the immediate former President for the Republic of Ghana indicated at his last visit to the Wa West District that, he would draw the attention of GETFUND to consider giving the Wa West Education Directorate a facelift, however all hope for such a facelift turned hopeless.
